Dr. Yehonatan Kaplan

Dermatologist & Mohs Surgeon

Principal Investigator, DermUnbound Research Group

Dr. Yehonatan Kaplan is a board-certified dermatologist and Fellowship-trained Mohs micrographic surgeon based in Israel. He holds ACMS Fellowship certification and maintains an active clinical practice in dermatology, dermatologic surgery, and Mohs surgery at the Kaplan Clinic in Petah Tikva.

In parallel with clinical work, Dr. Kaplan leads the DermUnbound research program — a self-funded initiative exploring how practicing physicians can build, deploy, and maintain their own clinical AI tools. Every project in the DermUnbound portfolio was built by Dr. Kaplan during clinical practice, using AI-assisted development tools to turn clinical needs into working software.

His research focuses on three areas: the clinical utility of locally-deployed AI in dermatology, the privacy and security implications of physician-controlled versus cloud-based AI deployment, and the emerging paradigm of clinician-coders — physicians who use AI-assisted development to build their own tools.
